great way to start it off…love the song

  2. rent Says:

Claxton was recorded entirely using MLR AES edit routed to Ableton Live with effects.

  3. Srdjan Prodanovic Says:

Classical Physics was in fact made without a physical Monome :-D

I use Nonome (the computer keyboard Monome emulator), MLRV and Live.

Still waiting for the real deal to arrive (*shivers*)

  4. admin Says:

Snow Fall was made using Cuabse, a Virus Ti, and various VSTis and plugins, to sequence the melodies and parts, ten exported out to aif files and into the AES edit of MLR for live chopping, with each group routed into Cubase for additional effects, and to record each stem as a separate file for mastering.

  5. Srdjan Prodanovic Says:

    Great tracks guys!

  6. phortran Says:

rainy days was made by first recording/sequencing some basic ideas/melodies/beats in ableton, then cutting loops and importing into mlr. i routed mlr back to ableton via rewire and recorded the different instruments into seperate tracks. then i sliced up the resulting mlr recordings and re-sequenced them (this may be cheating, but i’m no good at mlr). for the glitchy drums/percussion element (not the main beat) i used pages midi sequencer and machinedrum interface and recorded most of it live out of machinedrum (a bit of editing was done).

  7. hypno|sapien Says:

unagi was made in live using molar to record and mangle loops played live by triggering a battery 3 kit and an instance of imposcar with a zendrum zap . some rows in molar were used to sequence an impulse kit. nothing was pre-recorded or pre-sequenced.

    video of recorded performance:

  8. poal Says:

    poal - dog instinct
(rhythm guitar and “monome-solo-guitar” made with mlr)

    poal - federer
(most of the glicthes in this song were made with mlr from sampled “real” instruments)

    poal - ostranenie
(another instrumental with massive use of parc sequencer)

    a more detailed explanation:
During the month of March, POAL - the group to which I belong together with my friend Miki - entered the recording studio to prepare its second disc, which title is “ex”. We entered without previous ideas, we improvised following the method of trying and mistake. To make things easier, everything was done over loops. I write this in this forum because the program we used was, exclusively, mlr, by tehn.

In the following months we dedicated our time to put all these ideas, melodies, harmonies and textures born during those four days in studio (all of the guitars were registered while we were composing, the vocal melodies were respected, we only registered all those moments without lyrics again).

  9. toiletooth Says:

“spyder selvs” was my first song ever made with a monome. i used logic to make my loops, then mlrV to perform the song. a recorded performance of this piece can be viewed at:
    http://vimeo.com/2938968

  10. I Am Genko Says:

Cloak & Dagger was made completely in mlrV. i used soundflower to send every out into logic and play a bit with the volumes. and that’s it. the samples are from 1950’s radio show a friend’s grandfather listened to while a brief stay in U.S.A. he told me about it and i sampled it. it’s still rough around the edges, but nothing that can’t be solved before D-Day.

  11. Minnesota Says:

funsaw is blowin my mind right now

  12. Antimon Says:

Pretty amazing stuff here so far.

    /Stefan

  13. the digital Garden Says:

    hi,
“Cycling dream” was made using a self-made application I made using max/msp. No MLR here !! ;-)
My monome was used to remote part of the program like beatbox, pattern, routing, fx send, mute, overall fx etc…
Since the used of the monome was very “transparent” in this case, I’d like to remember that the monome is just a controller !! Minimalist and beautiful one that’s said !!

  14. the digital Garden Says:

“Lauki Orchestra” was made using another Max program I did. It’s port of an existing program called “Lauki” by IXI software : http://www.ixi-software.net/content/scrshots/lauki.html

As you can see in the screenshot, it’s easy to understand how I used my monome …

There was 3 sources, a flute player, a sax player and a custom-guitar player, all playing live as I was using my program + monome to catch the sound and have some fun with.

  15. Jelly Antler Says:

Gonker, one of my first monome adventures using Flin + VST + FX.

    Peas and love.

  16. rent Says:

forgot to mention my new novation x-25 had a part in the sounds of claxton, along with ableton as usual.

  17. Chris Hahn Says:

Nice stuff on here. Hey Admin, on Snow fall, what plugin are you using to do those high speed repeats, and those ascending and descending tempo repeats?

  18. illanoise Says:

    awesome stuff here!

  19. admin Says:

Hey Chris, I have an Access Virus Ti Polar, which has an effect called Atomizer built into it, it basically lets you route a part from the synth, or external input into it, and maps repeats across the keyboard in time lengths, so you get a key for 1/2 note, 1/4 note, 1/8 note and so on, the higher divisions past 128 are tuned in key too, you can then also use the pitch bend wheel on each repeat to get the slow down/speed up repeat effect. You can even add the onbard effects to the repeats for chaotic fun….

You can get a similar effect using the Livecut plugin from Smartelectronix (free plugin), the only difference being that it’s a random effect, so while you have some control over the timing of the repeats and cuts, they occur randomly, and the speed and rate is random too, so you never know what you will get, although that can be fun, and you can do multiple edit records of the results and mix and match them to get your final result.

Another plugin you might want to look at is Audio Damage’s Replicant.

  20. kero Says:

both of my tracks were done on monome 256 using mlr of course!

  21. robot push key aka dby Says:

Game Boy with Nanoloop 1.3, Midi-NES and MFB-503… Metal Zone, Air FX, chorus, filter, phaser, reverb and a tiny bit of delay. Sequenced on a 40h + midi knobs, using Molar in Bidule.

  22. rent Says:

“sadface” is awesome…been listening to it all day

  23. simioliolio Says:

bitbasic - i love flin (sorry about the ‘mix1′, completely defeated the naming trend……)

used flin to create melodies, mlr to chop things (including the output of flin), polygome to sequence the glitches, and dj64 to mash things.

  24. enjoi the galapagoose Says:

    @ the digital garden:
i absolutely love lauki - never imagined free jazz would sound so expressive and satisfying when performed with a monome.
    great job.

  25. quangstuh Says:

thank you rent! much appreciated. this was my first song i produced on my monome

  26. GLIA Says:

    digital garden

do you mind sharing your lauki-middleman app?

unless its already been posted and I missed it

    thanks either way
    great music

  27. enjoi the galapagoose Says:

‘lombok’ - uploaded just in time for the first album… if there’s room.

    >>> mlrV, midi_128, cygnet plugged into ableton
    >> many iterations
    > a general aversion to quantize

  28. the digital Garden Says:

    @GLIA :
sorry but my app is currently not ready to be public. I did it for my own use.
Just download lauki and have fun !!
    http://www.ixi-software.net

  29. earthrise Says:

my track was done using my rhodes and flin both routed into ableton. it was done in one shot, mixing and all, no overdubs or reworking. fading done on my livid ohm while my other hand played piano.

  30. enjoi the galapagoose Says:

wow… just heard my track in the context of the others here and the piercing treble is terrible. that will teach me for using flying lotus as a reference.

when you need the high-Q masters i’ll send a mix more in line with the other tracks posted here.

  31. N2+EZ Says:

‘Provision of the Nature’ was made using mlr and live. we recorded pinao solo improvisations(by EZ) and re-edited using mlr and live(by N2). Some sounds are arranged using live and played using mlr for reatime playing

  32. lokey Says:

Savio Test Drive - Verdone Overlay was made from a sample of mario savio speaking at the Proulx Hall demonstration in 1964. Vocals cut up and rearranged to a kick track and bassline sequenced and recut using molar, then further melodized using my zendrum and a synthesized guitar lead, grit added by turntable cutting up some old shortwave recordings from the middle east.

  33. quangstuh Says:

that bitbasic song is really good, LOL, and did i hear a horn that can be use in improv?

  34. TheFlashOfTheBlade Says:

Slice dub track was made by jamming around using a Moog little phatty and stutter/mlr on a monome, until some basic ideas were laid down. The track was then mapped out, and lots of detailed editing, random mlr bashing and stutter was added, with a load of other processing, to get the track to the state it is in now. Needs sub to be appreciated. Peace, Luke

  35. Antimon Says:

I forgot to say how I made Carrying You Home - it’s loops sampled from a Poly Evolver Key or Electribe ESX. They were all triggered and cut up using breakme, a home brewed ChucK app that I’ve posted in the monome forum.

  36. jmelnyk Says:

battery collection track… done the traditional way (playing stuff) except for the clicky/hihat-type sound and some of the tambourines. those were done in mlr.

not the craziest use of the monome (i use it way more live). but there you go.

  37. kero Says:

both of my tracks were made on jmelnyk’s mlr version.

  38. RabidRaja Says:

Probably a little late on my submission but I’ve been working non-stop for months on my Monome app with which I used to create the middle-cut-up section of the song and the ending cut-up(the app is called _C¥¶€R_ and should be available soon… still writing technical docs). The song is more housey than i usually get but i was feeling very… uh… romantic at the time :p

  39. J. Precursor Says:

    hey digital garden,

im just wondering how u translate the essence of lauki into masx/msp. i’m a undergrad music student currently working on the max/patch, it’ll be great if you could give me a couple of tips on doing it.

    Cheers!
