Auditory Canvas

A blog for the ramblings of my musical life….

monome finally built and complete….

So after originally building the monome kit I ordered in December, after spending many an hour with it and playing a live gig with it in January, I ended up falling in love with it so much I decided to build another one, and combine them to make one big monome…..

After running through several case desing and attempts, I finally finished the end result, which is basically a leather bound tray as the base housing, with a hand crafted piece of MDF for the top plate. Into which i drilled and filed 128 holes for the buttons, then cut 128 holes out of a piece of cream leather to cover it.

The end result is in the pictures below. I’ll post some video of it in action soon.

Building myself a monome….

I just ordered a monome 40h kit from monome.

It basically gives me a custom 8×8 (64) grid to use several of the many open source apps developed for the box, and also enables me to scale it up to a 128, and 256 in the future, which, providing the build of the first one goes well, I’ll no doubt be doing.

I’ll be building a custom case for it too, different to the one above, probably wooden, so I’ll be posting updates on how the build is going along the way once the kit is here.

Wish me luck ;-)
